With the occurrence of the worldwide pandemic and the state of Louisiana being an early adopter of stay at home orders due to COVID-19 spread, the Louisiana Association of Parliamentarians took advantage of virtual learning strategies and offered a series of Lunch and Learn workshops. The series included the following three sessions:
- Online Meeting Best Practices presented by Nathan Thompson, LAP Treasurer and Metarie Unit President
- The Engaged Member presented by Alison Wallis, PRP, CP-T, American College of Parliamentary Lawyers President
- Motions We All Need presented by James Jones, PRP, NAP Former President
The workshops were well attended by members of the Louisiana Association of Parliamentarians and members of the Electronic Association of Parliamentarians, the organization which graciously provided the Zoom meeting platform for the Lunch and Learn Series.
We continue to communicate workshop opportunities across the nation to the LAP membership so that while virtual opportunities are frequently available, the Louisiana membership can experience varied presentation and workshop styles.
The two active units in Louisiana, the Baton Rouge Unit (President Nicole Learson) and the Metarie Unit (President Nate Thompson), continue to meet. The Baton Rouge Unit meets virtually as the meeting site is not open for meetings at this time. The Metarie Unit continues to meet face-to-face taking all CDC precautions to keep the membership safe and well and they continue their parliamentary journey.
Looking ahead, Alison Wallis, PRP, CP-T has accepted the appointment to plan the LAP Biennial Membership meeting which is tentatively scheduled for February 20, 2021. Of course the desire is to be able to meet face to face, but the world health conditions during the time before the meeting will dictate whether the meeting is in person or virtual.
